DEMETER BLOOMING

The ceramic tradition has a vital and rich history harking back to Antiquity. DEMETER is the Ancient Greek goddess of grain and agriculture. She is Mother Earth, (from “-meter” meaning “mother” and “De-“ or “Ge”, meaning Earth). She bore a child with Zeus named Persephone. In the famous myth, Demeter’s grief over the loss of Persephone is the reason why there is winter, for Persephone is stolen away by her husband, Hades, in the Underworld for a part of each year. Her joy, when Persephone can join her on Earth, coincides with the fertile spring and summer months. Chloë, also of Greek origin meaning "young green shoot", symbolizes new growth and the joyful Demeter of springtime.

BLOOMING speaks about the act of artistic creation. It is an unfolding, maturing, blossoming of the self. Creating is an expression of life and abundance. Chloë recognizes the privilege that it is to create freely, in an age where so much is given in an impersonal mold.
